ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS and DEANS CONFERENCE

The Illinois Principals Association (IPA) is holding its annual “Assistant Principals and Deans Conference” June 10-12, 2012 at the Hilton Hotel in Lisle. This annual educational event affords attendees the opportunity to hear outstanding educational leaders and participate in general sessions, legal updates and small group sessions on topics affecting administrators and how they can better serve their schools. Additionally, the National Association of Secondary School Principals “Assistant Principal of the Year” award winner will be recognized. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Tim Benka, Assistant Principal from Emerson Middle School in Niles. The general sessions will feature Brian Schwartz, Associate Director and Legal Counsel for the Illinois Principals who will present a “School Law Update” on Sunday evening June 10. At the 1st General Session on Mon. morning, IPA President Jim Schmid, Principal at Matea Valley H.S. in Aurora will update attendees on what’s happening in the IPA followed by Dr. Peter Jonas, Professor, Author, and Chairperson of the Doctoral Leadership Department at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI who will present “How to Use Humor to Improve Learning and Leadership”. For the 2nd General Session on Tues. morning, Dr. Justin Patchin, Co-Director of the Cyberbullying Research Center and Associate Professor of Criminal Justice of the Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire will present “Bullying Moves Beyond the Schoolyard”. The closing session at the Tues. luncheon is “From Doom to Zoom” by Jim Burgett, President of the Burgett Group in Highland. In addition to the general sessions, the Conference offers twenty-one small group sessions with a variety of topics including Response to Intervention programs, Meeting the Needs of Students with Disabilities, Illinois Education Reform, Classroom Walkthroughs, Technology Tools, and several sessions on bullying as well as several other important topics. The Illinois Principals Association is a professional organization representing over 4200 elementary, middle and high school Principals, Assistant Principals and Deans throughout Illinois.
